Obituary for Robert Woodrow Phillips

Robert Woodrow Phillips II, born and raised in Upper Arlington, Ohio and resident of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 3rd 2018 at the age of 73 . He was kind-hearted, family-first, and a dedicated man of God.

Bob or Bobby, as he was known, was committed to his family and friends. He was generous with his time and talents to help build and deliver any project you could imagine.

Bob was the ultimate husband and champion of his family, starting with his loving wife of 46 years, Sheila Anne (Schwartz) Phillips. He was a constant role model of integrity, hard work, and loyalty to his three children: Kimberly, Christopher (Fermina), and Seth (Jennifer).

Bob was a master builder, as he led the construction of bridges, highways, homes, and could master any project. After completing High School at Upper Arlington in 1963 he studied at The Ohio State University and at Franklin University before moving into the family business.

He was a leader at Howard Phillips Inc. for many years. He proceeded to become a state certified contractor in Florida and Arizona. Building and developing with tenacity, precision and results-oriented leadership were hallmarks of his brand. His talent for building structures was unparalleled, but his dedication to building relationships will be what he is remembered for most.

Bob, was known as Papa in his role as a loving grandfather to: Leigha, Lehne, Kalina, Jillian, Sophia, Nathan, and Owen and great-grandfather to: Ireland, Leiland, and Lily. He was the most affectionate Papa - always quick to hug and love his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Papa’s face and heart would light up when spending time with and giving happiness to those most important. Papa was also the quintessential dog-lover. He loved his dogs from the time he was a boy until the day he passed. He referred to the dogs in his life as ‘his kids’ and always cared for and protected them.

Papa (Bob) was also a loving brother to his older brother, Gary, and his younger brother, Paul. He is now with his beloved father, mother and sister who passed before him - Howard William, Frances Louise and Marabelle (Phillips) George.

We are heartbroken to lose our Papa and most important role model. He is now at peace and comfortable in heaven playing birdie-filled rounds of golf, paving new roads, and building homes heaven will celebrate.
