Obituary

Donald Duane Womack of Peoria, Arizona passed away peacefully with his family

by his side on Friday October 4, 2019 at 85 years of age.

Donald (Don) was born on December 20, 1933, to Charles McKendrick Womack and Esther Jeannette (Campbell) Womack in the family home on Jefferson St. in Iola, KS.

Don was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, OK, as a draftsman/illustrator shortly after graduation in 1951.  Don met and married his wife, Cheryl (Hopper) while working for Phillips, in January 1956.  He was drafted into the Army one month after being married.

While in the Army he was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA where he was assigned to the Food Service School as an illustrator until his tour of duty was over. He left his trademark there by painting many of the signs on the base.

Don and Cheryl decided to move west to Corona, California in 1963. While in Corona their 1st daughter Jamie Noelle was born in 1965 followed by a 2nd daughter Jennifer Anne in 1966.

While in Corona, they became active in the Methodist church and made many lasting friends while living there.

In 1971 Don and family moved to Glendale, AZ, where he was employed by a mobile home manufacturing company.  He later decided to go out on his own and became a licensed building contractor (Womack Construction Company), working mostly in the Carefree, AZ area.  He continued with this business for several years before retiring.

He enjoyed many hobbies and activities for many years such as flying his Cherokee 180 plane, golfing, fishing, bowling, roller skating, attending church and wood working (he made many furniture items for his family thru out the years) but his greatest love was spending time with his family.

Don will be missed for his kind and gentle soul, his sense of humor, his ability to forgive, his patience and his way of teaching others.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, William, Robert and Rex.

Don is survived by his loving wife Cheryl, daughters Jamie Richardson (Scott Richardson) and Jennifer Womack-Hall (Stan Hall); Four grandchildren, Tyler Richardson (Jessica Richardson), Autumn Richardson (Brady Booher), Zachary Hall and Zane Hall (Shanell Hall). Don was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Ember Richardson, Rylan Booher and Amelia Hall.
