Ed Whelan age 76, went Home to the Lord on September 15, 2019 after short battle with lung cancer. He was born on November 11, 1942 in Los Angeles and attended Saint John Viani high school. He went to UCLA he was very involved and his fraternity Delta Tau Delta.Ed served in the army national guard for four years in the Los Angeles area.
Ed is survived by his wife of 20 years Char Whelan his son Michael (Kaysi) daughter Jean(Dan), stepson James, Sister Anne Voss, and his three grandchildren Matthew, Katie and Fianna and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Eileen and Daniel Clifford Whelan.
In retirement, Ed was very involved with the RV lifestyle and was a member of the family motor coach association. He found a true home in the RV community of happy trails resort in surprise Arizona. Ed was often seen walking in his neighborhood or writing his E-Z Go golf cart-always with 1 foot dangling in someone’s dog in the passenger seat.
Ed was famous for his sarcastic Irish wit and sense of humor. He was a voracious Reader of political thrillers especially David Baldacci and Stuart Woods. He also greatly enjoyed woodworking.
Ed was a unique individual and was very much his own person. He had strongly held religious beliefs and attended mass regularly. He was admired by many as a Catholic scholar.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Clare of Assisi on November 11, 2019 at 10:30am. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Clare of Assisi building fund.
