Eugene Henry Albers passed away peacefully in his home on June 15, 2019 with his loving wife, Leona, by his side. They were married for 61 happy years.
He was born on May 21st, 1930 in Montezuma, Ohio, the oldest of 5 children, to Mr. Alfred Albers and Mrs. Rosa Albers.
Gene earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1952. He was a faithful Fighting Irish fan throughout his life. After graduation he served his country as part of the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He and Leona were married in 1957 in Chicago, Illinois. In 1971 he moved his family to Phoenix, Arizona with the Greyhound Corporation where he spent the remainder of his career as a corporate accountant and executive at one of their subsidiaries.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Rosa Albers, and his sisters Lucille Newton and Alvina Wachter. He is survived by his wife Leona and his 4 children - David, John (Karen), Janet (Richard), and Kathleen (Riyadh). Gene also leaves behind 9 grandkids and 1 great grandchild.
Gene retired at 55 years old and enjoyed camping with his family in many of the U.S. National Parks. He and Leona continued to travel after retirement with their Airstream trailer. Gene was a loving father, a devoted husband, and a man of unshakable faith. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him and by all the lives that he touched. Anyone who met him knew him to be a remarkable man of honesty, integrity, stellar work ethic and faith.
Eugene was laid to rest at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, Gene’s charity of choice is the Andre House, a ministry to the homeless and poor populations of the Phoenix area.
