Obituary

Mr. Charles (Chuck) Orville Cassada Jr., of Sun City West, AZ, passed away on January 28, 2021 at the age of 87.

Chuck was born to parents Charles and Mary-Alice Cassada in St. Paul, MN on March 9, 1933. He was the eldest of three boys. His family called many parts of the United States home before eventually settling in Indio, CA for Chuck’s teenage years. There he was a standout student, baseball player and aspiring journalist.

After briefly studying at Montana State University, Chuck enlisted with the army at the outset of the Korean War. He proudly served with the 317th Engineer Battalion in West Germany for two years. Upon his return to civilian life, Chuck enrolled at the University of Colorado, where he met the love of his life, Mary Frances Cassada (nee Klein). They were married on June 18, 1960 and enjoyed a 53-year romance before Mary’s passing in 2013.

Chuck’s professional career began as a CPA with Arthur Andersen in Denver, CO. Due to his keen insights and innovations, he quickly rose to the position of Vice President. During this time, the couple welcomed two beautiful daughters, Linda and Jill, into the world.

In 1967, Chuck accepted a position with Maccabees Mutual Life Insurance. The family soon relocated to Bloomfield Hills, MI, where their third child, David, was born. Chuck and Mary spent the next three decades here, lovingly raising their family, making lifelong friendships and strengthening their devotion to each other.

In 1994, after an incredibly accomplished 27-year career with Maccabees, Chuck retired as Chief Financial Officer. And in 1997, Chuck and Mary moved to Sun City West, AZ.

Chuck was known to all as an affectionate husband, a caring and compassionate father, and a thoughtful friend. His sharp wit and engaging personality made him a joy to be around. He was an avid golfer, a passionate CU Buffaloes alumni, and a diehard Diamondbacks fan.

Chuck is survived by his daughter Linda DeLessio (Steve), daughter Jill Cassada (Gabriel Guzman), son David Cassada (Meagan Doonan), brother Howard (Clarice) Cassada, and six beloved grandchildren: Nick, Julianne, Marie, Danielle, Madeline, and Finn.
