James H. McCarty Jr, 77, joined his beloved wife Annette in heaven on March 15, 2021. He
was born May 15, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA to James and Dolores McCarty.
As a child growing up in Bristol, PA, James was an altar boy while attending St Thomas Aquinas
school, served in the boy scouts, and enjoyed sports while helping his dad in the family
business, McCarty Mower Service. After graduating from Del Haas High School in Bristol, PA in
1961 he attended Shippensburg University.
In 1963, James joined the United States Air Force where he began a proud 27 year career.
James graduated from Sacred Heart College in 1973 while also serving in the Air Force and
earned a Bachelors of Business Management as well as a Bachelors of Communication. In
1976 he was stationed in Ft. Yukon, AK where he fell in love and married Annette. Together
they traveled the world and raised their family while serving their country. In 1982, James
achieved the top enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Throughout his Air Force career he
received numerous awards and decorations for military excellence as well as Top Security
clearance, something he was very proud of. After retiring from the Air Force in 1990, James
moved back to Alaska with his family and began a 17 year career working for the State of
Alaska as manager of the District Attorney's Office in Anchorage. He retired in 2007 and began
traveling again with his wife before making their final residence in Arizona.
Dad will be remembered for the love for his family, his many jokes, his Donald Duck voice, his
love of college football, Notre Dame, the Green Bay Packers, his patriotism and love of his
country, his never ending sweet tooth, and wealth of knowledge of world history.
James is survived by his children Laurie Thomas, Christopher LaBelle (Erik), James McCarty III
(Cindy), Mace McCarty, Debra McCarty (Mike), Diana McCarty, Georgianna Hormann (Ethan)
and Clifton McCarty. His siblings Dolores Henry (Dewey), Tom McCarty (Nancy) and Dan
McCarty (Angie). He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren
James was preceded in death by his wife Annette Carroll McCarty, parents James and Dolores
McCarty, and son in law David Thomas.
