Sgt. Lawrence “Larry” E. Coy, Jr, 79, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, after a sudden and brief illness. Thanks to today’s technology friends and family were able to visit regardless of their distance. Larry was a master at woodworking and could fix or build anything with just 2”x4s”, he also enjoyed gardening in soil and in sand. He proudly served his Country for over 13 years. He enlisted in the Army, with Troop E 106th Cavalry, Rock Falls, IL, and transferred to the USAAR Control Group out of St Louis, MO. He was stationed in Germany, Japan, and Michigan. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and graduated from the USASES, Ft Gordon, GA. While stationed in Germany, he met Erna Wolf, they were married 04/23/1965. He is survived by his children, Danny (Robin) Coy, Sharon (Ken) Gray, Angela Gladhill, Tim (Ashley) Coy; grandchildren Jordan, Tyler, Zachary, Lacy, Justin, Kristie, Hallie, Hayden, Chloe, Collins and Christopher. He also has several great-grandchildren. He was the brother to Pat Fike, Lorna (Ted) Leigh, Carol Bennett, Ronnie (Kathy) Coy and many nieces and nephews. Larry is preceded in death by his Wife Erna, son-in-law Kevin Gladhill, sisters Kathy O’Connor, and Rosie Waltenbaugh. He met Carol Midthun, they were married 10/2/2010 and he was blessed with four bonus daughters and three bonus grandchildren. Larry and Carol moved to Surprise AZ, where he loved spending time with new friends, at the pool and in their retirement community. A Veteran’s Ceremony at Oak Knoll Memorial Gardens, Sterling IL is being planned, and a memorial is being established in his honor. Online condolences may be sent to www.caminodelsol.com.
