Obituary

Surprise / Sun City West – Richard Allen Wendorf, age 95, of Surprise, AZ, passed away on September 13, 2020.  Richard was born in Milwaukee, WI, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor’s degree in business.  He was an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City West, AZ, where he lived for many years.  Richard was married to the love of his life, Mary Catherine Schmitt Wendorf, for 70 wonderful years.

Richard had a long, successful career at the A. O. Smith Corporation, where he was a senior executive and president of the Smith Fiberglass Products subsidiary company.  He was distinguished for his honesty and integrity.

He enjoyed global travel and opened a window to the world for his family.  People loved to listen to his interesting and funny stories about business, travel, and hobbies.  His favorite pastimes included golfing and playing tennis with his many friends.  Richard was a staunch fan of automobile racing, which he shared with his children.  During his years in Arizona, he built a magnificent collection of petrified wood pieces.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.  Preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his parents Samuel P. and Leone A. (Shake) Wendorf. He is survived by his daughters J. Rory Laiho (Doug) and Darcy Jean Baier (Claude); sons Gregory A. Wendorf (Patricia) and Gary R. Wendorf; grandsons Devin, Brian, Justin, Daniel, Ian, Matthew, Dylan, Damian, and Micah, a granddaughter, Nicolle, a great-granddaughter Hannah and great-grandsons Logan, Beckett, Evan and Cullen.
