Roger Arthur Lansberry, age 81, died on June 3, 2020, at his home in Sun City West, Arizona, surrounded by his family.
He was the ultimate DIY guy who could do it all. Those around him learned a lot! He had many roles: brother, spouse, parent, grandparent, teacher and many times a friend. He had a love for 55 and 56 Chevy cars – especially the convertibles. The churches he attended, he served in many capacities including elder, deacon and various finance committees, along with singing in the chancel choir. Roger’s passion was working with wood as he spent his days at the Sun City West woodshop creating his works of love for his family and friends. This handiwork will live forever within their homes.
From his birth on February 4, 1939 in Tampa, Florida to his death on Wednesday, Roger loved, served, and mentored those around him.
Roger was born to Helen and Jerrold Lansberry and was the oldest of four children. Roger graduated from Academy High School in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1957, and then attended Behrend Campus of Penn State as well as the University of Denver with a focus in accounting. Following the completion of his education at the University of Denver, Roger spent his career as a licensed CPA working in many different capacities throughout his life; most recently as CFO with the Sun City West Rec Center.
Cupid struck in accounting classes at the University of Denver in 1961 and Janice Sorensen and Roger were connected to each other. Roger sold his comptometer to purchase the engagement ring. Roger and Janice married on June 10, 1961, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Following his graduation, Roger began his career in the accounting profession. The couple relocated to Corry, Pennsylvania, in 1966.
Left to honor Roger are his wife, Janice, his three children: Sandra (Douglas) Hornak of Acworth, Georgia; James (Theresa) Lansberry of Peoria, Illinois; and Jeffrey (Lori) Lansberry of Littleton, Colorado; as well as son-in-law Aylmer Given of Jaffrey, New Hampshire and siblings Janet (Alicia) Eveland and Richard (Carole) Lansberry. Roger also leaves behind 14 grandchildren: Hope, Joshua, Brandon, Moriah, Samuel (Julia), Tobias (Hannah), Elsie, Peter, Margary, Isabella, Alexis, Clara, Jubilee, Ezekiel and two great grandchildren: Roselee and Claricy and his nieces and nephews Scott (Becky) Lansberry, David (Danielle) Lansberry, and Alyssa Lansberry-Visnosky.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert Lansberry, and daughter, Cynthia Lansberry Given.
Roger will be remembered as a bright shining light in the various communities he served.
A private family service will be held with a celebration of his life to be scheduled later in 2020.
