Ruben leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Margarita (Margot), their three children, Manuel Vega of Dallas, Texas, Carmen Santiago of Queens, New York and Elizabeth Hernandez of Surprise, Arizona, eight grandchildren, Jason Gonzalez, Jacqueline Munoz, Christopher Vega, Teresa Gonzalez, Victoria Vega, Crystal Hernandez, Michael Vega and William Hernandez Jr., 14 great grandchildren and his best furry friend Toby of 14 years.
He was born in Ponce, PR, the son of Flor Vega and Carmen Santiago and also leaves behind his younger sister Nereida (Nelly) Aquiar. Ruben relocated to Brooklyn, New York at the age of 16.
Ruben was a very proud hard worker who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a faithful Mets fan who enjoyed playing dominos and going to the racetrack. He loved playing pranks and jokes on his family and friends. He had such an influence on his children, grandchildren and extended family that each and every one of them learned his catch phrase “that shit is good.” However, Ruben’s happiest place was with his pets.
In 2019, he and Margot moved to Surprise, Arizona. His smile and positive demeanor is what will be remembered most.
