Obituary

Sandra Lavern (Merritt) Olbert was born May 7, 1941 to Andrew and Jane Merritt and passed from this life May 14, 2020 at the age of 79. Born in Port Arthur, TX, Sandra grew up in Tulsa, OK and later, Durango, CO, where she graduated from Durango High School in 1959. She married George Howard Olbert, also of Durango, on August 19, 1962 and together, they raised four children.

Sandra was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who put family above all else. She enjoyed visiting with as many family members as possible as often as possible and didn’t mind traveling to do it. She was there to cheer on her children and grandchildren through many seasons of softball, football, baseball, band concerts, plays and more. Sandra enjoyed camping, fishing, dancing and attending the theater, music and sporting events. Throughout her life, she worked at various occupations, including as a receptionist, Realtor and store manager.  

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Jane Merritt; brothers Bruce Merritt and Herbert Merritt; and sisters Joan Harrold and Carol Bell. She is survived by brothers Richard Merritt of Tulsa and Timothy Merritt of Tulsa; children Jasan Carole Bronish of Thornton, CO, Michael Lon Olbert of Denver, CO, Rae Dawn Hilker of Surprise, AZ and Janis Inez Rossi of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren Robert Richardson, Bianca Rossi, Gianna Rossi, Jennifer Olbert, Allissa Olbert, Kevin Bronish and great-grandson Robert Richardson, Jr.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
